Description

Sylvia Striplin sang lead on the hit “You’re A Star” released in 1978 by the group, then first recorded with Roy Ayers in 1980 on his album “Love Fever”.

When Roy launched Uno Melodic Records in 1980, Eighties Ladies were the label’s first signing, a group that featured Sylvia on vocals before she recorded this debut solo album later the same year.

The songs “Give Me Your Love” and “You Can’t Turn Me Away” were combined on the same first single and remain two of the most iconic tracks from both Sylvia and Uno Melodic to this day. “Give Me Your Love” became the title of the album (sampled by Armand Van Helden among others) while “You Can’t Turn Me Away” was covered by Erykah Badu and has been sampled over twenty times (including by Junior M.A.F.I.A, Naughty By Nature, Backstreet Boys, Deborah Cox, & Kaliphz).

It went onto to be featured in the video game “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories” and a number of movies including "Ecology Of Love” featuring Pharrell Williams. Other tracks from the album (“Toy Box”, “Seachin’” and “All Alone”) have also been sampled, all contributing towards the status of this album, the Uno Melodic story and tribute to the songwriting and production skills of Roy Ayers in his prime during a golden era of music.
